     My name is Cal Piccolo and I have been a trout fisherman since I was seven years old. My father taught me how to fish in the California Sierra Nevada Lake Tahoe Basin area. Over the years, I have had numerous photographs published in three major California fishing magazines of trout caught on my Piccolo Poles. I currently hold the Alpine County record for the largest rainbow trout recorded in many years (14lbs, 30" in length, 17" in girth...see photos below).    

     I've always had a general interest in rod building, so a few years ago I decided to seriously pursue this hobby. I became acquainted with two well known, old school rod builders in my area, one was Italian and one was Japanese. I used to visit their shop and trade them crab and other crustaceans in exchange for their wisdom and training. I learned to master their rod building techniques over time, while still managing to put my own personal touch on every individual creation.

     My custom built fishing rods are designed to suit the individual needs of each customer. I offer a wide range of component options to set your rod apart from the factory "ready made" rods that are available in today's market. Factory rods typically take an hour to make, but my rods take hours of fine tuning and meticulous inspection to achieve a perfectly balanced rod. I specialize in antique fiberglass spin, fly and casting rods from the fifties. I only use the best materials available to make customers like you a quality rod. In fact, most of my rod building components are vintage and original to the fifties style method of building fiberglass rods. Photos of various components and choices are found throughout this website, and additional photos can be provided if you cannot find what you are looking for. Each customer will be asked to verify his/her choices before I begin working on the order. This will help to ensure order accuracy and customer satisfaction.

     The Piccolo Pole would make a great addition to your rod collection, whether you are an avid collector or a beginning angler. Also, The Piccolo Pole would make an excellent gift for your family members and friends, and any outdoor enthusiast. Children's models are also available upon request.
